Family Day - Benares Historic House
Residents of South Mississauga had an opportunity to view some local history on Family Day as the Benares Historic House was open for Family Day tours. There was a historic cooking demo in the basement, while crafts were being made at the Visitor Centre and toys and games were availoable in the summer kitchen. All of this gave the visiting families and friends an opportunity to see the Benares home in Clarkson with its more than 160 years of history on display. Visitors had the chance to view the many different rooms and floors of the home and to interact with a variety of original family possessions. In the basement of the home, there was a live cooking demonstration of authentic ration recipes from the WWI era. In the summer kitchen, children could play with some classic 20th century wooden blocks and games and all throughout the home, history was seen in everything from the original beds, cabinets and linens. Family Day at the Benares House happens every year and is a fascinating way to spend the holiday, with family and friends while also learning about Mississauga’s heritage.
